April 20th, 2022 | Leadership & Red Soles: A Conversation with Carla Erice, President of Christian Louboutin Americas

GRLA was pleased to host Carla Erice, President of Christian Louboutin the Americas, 0n Wednesday, April 20th. Moderated by Professor Ricardo Ernst, the conversation spanned a range of topics including her personal background, her career path and experience at Louboutin, and how her leadership has propelled the brand’s expansion in the Americas.

Erice shared her experience going from growing up on a dairy farm to moving to New York City and launching her career at Louboutin. Erice began at Louboutin in 2007 as Retail Director. To Erice, what makes Louboutin different from other brands in the luxury footwear space—beyond its signature red soles—is its strong value system and focus on inclusivity. When asked about her leadership style and how, under her leadership, Louboutin significantly grew its presence in the Americas, Erice said the one thing she always holds true is that “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

The conversation also touched on general trends in the luxury space as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Erice touched on the significance of e-commerce, especially since COVID-19, and how Louboutin has adapted their approach to the pandemic. Erice also touched upon how the brand is expanding to continue to appeal to male consumers in addition to the youngest generation of consumers.

A working mother, Erice is a true role model and is a strong proponent of powerful female leadership. Her advice for students who aim to follow a similar career path is to be open minded, trust your instincts, and make strong connections along the way.

Following the inspiring conversation, the event included a raffle for prizes, including a Louboutin bag and a $1,000 gift card. Erice also announced that a new Louboutin store will be opening at City Center in DC in February of 2023.
